Diary

Week One

On this week I had been introduced to a design brief. We were instructed to write an introduction to explain what our task was, and what was being designed; a new East Norfolk Website. Our client was East Norfolk Sixth Form College. Once we had produced the new website the PR Marketers Josh and John came in to observe our websites, and give us feedback regarding our design choices. They also explained why the current website is designed the way it is, and how the logo of the college cannot be changed.

Week Two

On the second week we focused on the age range of the website, and what audiences it would apply to most. I figured that the website age-range would apply to high School students preparing to start college, and those within the college.

Week Three

On the third week I inspected the East Norfolk HEX codes by using the F12 key and discovered how to change the background colour on the website, which is how I discovered that the college logo in a JPEG image, therefore the white background on the logo didn't change.

Week Four

On the fourth Week I designed my website pages on paper. We were required to edit the homepage of the website and one other page of our choice; I chose Students and Parents, because the layout was bland and boring. I had to write notes on the back of the sheets listing what fonts I would use, and what sizes they would be. I received feedback from a couple of fellow peers and I noted what they critiqued on my designs. I then scanned my designs and feedback sheets through the printer to post onto my blog and use for designing digitally.

Week 5

On the final week I recreated the website designs on Powerpoint, using hyperlinks to make the two pages accessible and function like a real website. I then posted my designs onto my blog, followed by responses to my feedback.

Feedback

Peer One said there was no pictures in the link page. I think pictures aren't really necessary as the page is more info-based.
Peer Two said the font in link page could be bold to be clearer. I added bold in the final design.

Proposal: Rebranding the East Norfolk Website

  • What have you been asked to do? (What is the brief?)
  • We were asked to design a new website for East Norfolk College.
  • Specify the target audience (and use media terminology)
  • The target audience is aimed for teenagers and high schoolers going to or who are in college.
  • What product do you intend to create?
  • A website that uses the same branding and scheme.
  • What issues did you highlight with the existing website?
  • JPEG white BG image rather than PNG, blank white useless spaces on sides.
  • How do you propose to improve the website:
    • typography
    • colours
    • layout
    • use of images and videos / other assets
    • style / theme
  • What is the aim of your new design - what do you hope to achieve?
  • I hope to make the website a little more organised and better presented.
